Torre de Curvo

Torre do Frade is a family farm located in the municipality of Monforte in the Alto Alentejo, southeast of Portugal, very close to the border with the Spanish Extremadura.
The history of the homestead dates back to the distant year of 1384 when the original owner donated the lands to the Hermits of the Order of Sto. Augustine, here the friars founded a convent that lasted until 1834, when the religious orders were expelled from Portugal by Joaquim António de Aguiar, Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Justice at the time.
With the expulsion of the friars, the lands were sold by public auction and were bought by the family in 1839. Since that day our mission has been oriented towards the production of food goods of excellence with a quality index above the common. Currently the management is made by three branches of the original family.
Nowadays, we produce cattle with the Carnalentejana seal, certified cereals for human consumption, honey, cork, black pig, grapes of superior quality and more recently, since 2004, we started the production of the first family wine.
