POÇAS CENTENARYIt all started in 1918, when Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, born in the heart of the bustle of Port Wine, decided on his business. It was August 15, a few months before the Armistice. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and had experience working in the area. With his uncle, he founded a company to sell brandies to great producers of Port wine. Shortly after it established the headquarters that remains until today, in Vila Nova de Gaia. First his uncle, then the brothers, a woman, the grandchildren: a whole Poças family came to share their passion for wine, combining respect for tradition with an open mind to innovation brought by the new generations.Today, with three farms in the best locations in the Douro Demarcated Region, a Poças with total control of the quality of its wines. And the involvement of the family is stronger than ever.

Poças Ports with an Indication of Age and Colheita are reputed for their quality, particularly the aged Colheitas, which are considered especially representative of this category. The Ports with an Indication of Age are the maximum expression of the winemakers’ expertise in selecting the finest of all the lots that can be included in this category.In the same way that Vintage Ports are the finest product of Ruby Ports par excellence, in the case of Tawnies, perfection is achieved with the Colheitas, the finest lots of wine from a single year that are aged in wood for a minimum seven years. These complex wines are excellent companions to foie gras or even a good cigar.
