In 1790, George Sandeman began its business in London, in the Tom´s Coffee House, and bought Port with a £300 loan.In 1811, he purchased the cellars of Gaia, in Porto, and started one of the most renowned brands in a national and international level. In 1928, George Massiot Brown painted the famous image called « DON », the symbol that represents the black cape of Portuguese university students and the famous hat of the Spanish knights. The Don, a prestigious icon achieved worldwide recognition for the brand.Throughout 200 years, Sandeman has been recognized as a brand of Port and Sherry of excellent quality, passing on from generation to generation. Today, opinion leaders recognize its quality which is highlighted in international wine competitions, where since 2000 has already received over 220 awards.
