BURMESTER estº 1750In 1730, Henry Burmester and John Nash founded Burmester & Nash in London, dedicated to the grain trade. Later, in 1750, in Vila Nova de Gaia, they began exporting Port Wine to Europe and the British Isles. The family name comes from the town of Moelln in northern Germany, deriving from the title Burgomestre, which means head of municipality.In the late eighteenth century, a society was dissolved and Henry Burmester''s constitutional son, with his sons, Frederick and Edward, a new Port company, H. Burmester & Sons.
