Poeirinho 2014 shows a bright violet color of slight concentration. The aroma is very fine and complex, with the terroir standing out in a remarkable way. Limestone breathes in full harmony with notes of spices, cherry and wild berries. In the mouth, it impresses with its precision, with a huge structure and a lot of grit. It is sharp, deeply mineral and refreshing. The high acidity and the present but polished tannins make us believe that it will grow a lot in the bottle. Very long, vertical and fresh finish. With only 11% it should be enjoyed slightly chilled (15ºC) and in Pinot Noir glasses.
Goes well with sausages, cod in the oven or vegetarian dishes with legumes.
Poeirinho, whose name reflects the old designation of the Baga variety, is a tribute to the great Bahian wines of the past, which were light in color and alcohol content, but which had enormous aging potential. Dirk Niepoort's great passion for this variety and for the fantastic terroir of Bairrada has led him to look for small plots of Baga, with very old vines, scattered around Cantanhede over the last few years. In a very difficult year in Bairrada like 2014, an incredible wine with a lot of character was created.
