It is a wine that has a ruby red colour of medium intensity. Delicate and with a fine aroma, on the nose, there are floral notes, with a touch of raspberry and nuances of black fruits. There are also notes of pine needles, undergrowth and mushroom, in a very complex bouquet. It is elegant and smooth on the palate, with a very balanced freshness, showing all the notes we find in the nose and that last in a long and persistent finish.
This wine is a natural at the table, as it is highly gastronomic. It goes equally well with a Lagareiro-style octopus, as it does with a mushroom risotto.
In October 2017, fire destroyed many hectares of vineyards at Quinta de Carvalhais, which were meanwhile uprooted to be later replanted. On one of the burnt plots, plot 45, the grapes that had been harvested a few days earlier would yield a wine of great quality as never before tasted " the best Alfrocheiro ever from Carvalhais.
