The vineyards are planted in schistose soils both vertically and on terraces at altitudes between 360 ft and 985 ft. South-facing, there are five water springs (called minas) that help to cool the area and influence the vineyard’s terroir. This is a concentrated wine, with a balance of ripe fruit and the characteristic freshness of Quinta dos Murças.

HERDADE DO ESPIRÃO - 750 YEARS OF HISTORY

The story begins in 1267, when the geographical boundaries of the Homestead of the Esporão (initially Defense of the Esporão) were defined and until today they remain practically unchanged. Soeiro Rodrigues, judge of the city of Évora, was one of the first owners, followed by the master of Santiago Rodrigues de Vasconcelos, Morgado D. Álvaro Mendes de Vasconcelos and the counts of Alcáçovas.
During this time, in the center of the Herdade do Esporão, three historical monuments were erected: the Tower of the Esporão, the Arch of the Esporão and the Hermitage of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, the latter linked to an intense and devout popular cult in the region. The tower of the Esporão, symbol of affirmation in the society and exhibition of military power, is one of the most important towers in the illustration of the transition from the medieval age to the modern age in Portugal.

Intense color with violet lavas. Exuberant and concentrated aroma where the ripe red fruits dominate, some floral aromas and balsamic aromas, like the esteva. The palate is dominated by freshness and liveliness, has firm and ripe tannins, with a well-rounded acidity. It finishes long and persistent, standing out the balance between its freshness and maturation.
