Aromas combine notes of black fruits and forest floor with a balsamic touch of pine needles. It conveys a lot of freshness with a mountain breeze fragrance suggesting pine forest (light notes of pine resin). On the palate it is concentrated and juicy with notes of black plum and wild fruits and also some suggestion of dark chocolate and black pepper. The powerful structure is supported by fine tannins and good acidity, brought by the milder growth cycle and the high elevation of the vineyard. It will benefit from some more aging time in the bottle.
Located on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, near Portalegre, the Fonte Souto vineyards - planted between 490 and 550 meters high - benefit from conditions of greater freshness and humidity than the areas of the hot Alentejo plain. Transition soils between this and granite, predominantly shale, ensure an ideal balance between good levels of water retention and good drainage. The wines express the freshness and the balance that they derive from the high quotas, as well as the structure and complexity that result from mature vineyards of low yields.
