JOÃO PORTUGAL RAMOS

Creating a wine is an art that we have been perfecting for centuries.

Rarely is a good wine the result of chance. My experience as winemaker has taught me that a wine reflects the nature of the earth from which it is born and of those who produce it.

Creating a wine is an art that we have been perfecting in Portugal for centuries, nowadays reinforced by systematic, documented knowledge and improved methods.

Skill, experience and technology enable us to improve, with a high level of precision, the different factors that influence the personality of a wine.

For me, helping Portugal´s natural potential in this area to shine by creating and reinventing each wine is a passion that I now have the pleasure of introducing to you and sharing with you in each wine that I make.

Deep purple colour. An intense and expressive aroma, dominated by ripe red fruits and subtle hints of resin, enhanced by elegant floral notes of violet – typical of Touriga Nacional – and subtle oak nuances. On the palate, it reveals a structured yet balanced body, with fresh acidity that pairs perfectly with the fruit, and soft, polished tannins. A persistent and harmonious finish, highlighting the perfect marriage between Baga and Touriga Nacional.

Quinta de Foz de Arouce is located in the municipality of Lousã, in the Beiras region. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Lousã and Penela mountains and is bathed by the Arouce and Ceira rivers where the first flows. The old documents in the house refer to the properties as belonging to the family since the 19th century. XVIII, knowing that some dependencies are older. The current owners, the Counts of Foz de Arouce, parents-in-law of João Portugal Ramos, seek to maintain the hospitable and detached spirit with which they receive in their home and which characterizes the true Portuguese nobility. Wine production is like the continuation of this spirit that is reflected in its commercial philosophy: “with good wine you always make good and true friends”.
