In the 1930s, the first wine was produced at Quinta do Cardo, which was called Branco Maia. In 1986 the first white under the Quinta do Cardo brand was bottled and in 1988 the first red. The brand's fame skyrocketed and quickly became one of the great Portuguese wines, giving much prestige and strength to the then unknown Beira Interior.
