A wine of enormous aromatic complexity showing the intensity and depth of the old vines, combined with a fresh profile, something very characteristic of north-facing vineyards. On the nose, it enchants with its forest aromas, which highlight notes of black fruit, wild herbs, spices, and wet earth that combine very well with subtle notes of vanilla, demonstrating a harmonious integration with the oak wood used in the aging process. Excellent tasting volume, showing itself to be powerful and structured but at the same time elegant with a concentration and depth typical of low production vineyards. Firm and very round tannins, with flavors highlighted by a balanced acidity that makes the tasting long and persistent.

Typical dishes such as wild boar stew, lamb cooked at low temperature or aged meats. As a vegetarian suggestion, dishes based on mushrooms, beans or truffles.

Quinta das Carvalhas is the most emblematic and spectacular property in the Douro Valley. Written references about this magnificent vineyard can be traced back to 1759, its old vines, of post-philoxera plantation, are reaching the respectful age of one century. Enjoying a prominent position on the left bank of the Douro River, in Pinhão, it covers the whole of the hillside facing the Douro river and occupies part of the slopes of the right bank of the tributary Torto River. Carvalhas’ old vines, the origin of this superb Douro red, are a post-phylloxera plantation, which have reached the respectful age of a century old. This old vineyard contains around 20 different indigenous grape varietals, grown in the Field Blend concept.
