Medium intensity garnet color. Great purity and typicality in the aroma: sour cherries, wild strawberries, mint and fresh aromatic herbs, something fleshy. Dense body, with structure without being heavy at all. Great involvement of the set, a lot of class and typicality. Attractive, full of life and character.
Goes well with stewed lamb and oxtail.
The vineyards of Colares were already cultivated by the Romans and their wine was highly appreciated. But its ramisco variety, the noblest in the region, was brought to Portugal in the reign of D. Afonso III. In 1908, Colares was granted the status of Demarcated Region. Cultivated on sandy lands, under the influence of sea winds, the vines have to be protected with cane palisades. At the end of the 19th century, when phylloxera destroyed vineyards throughout the country, the region was saved due to the characteristics of the soil, which resisted the disease. António Bernardino Paulo da Silva is one of the oldest producers in the region and resistant to the urban pressure that invades the cultivated land. Struggling to maintain the typicality of its wine, this producer is the stronghold of one of the most precious nectars in the world.
