This wine reflects the freshness and delicate character that defines Niepoort in such a hot and dry year. Despite being young, it already has an impressive balance and fine tannins. The nose is a pure reflection of the Baga grape variety, with floral, berry, smoky and leathery notes that complement the character with gin tones reminiscent of the terroir of the vines. In the mouth, it has an incredible structure and sophistication. Vibrant fruit and excellent acidity produce a delicate, elegant and exceptionally fine wine. The finish is refreshing, saline and clearly expresses the wine's chalky terroir. This wine can be fully appreciated while young, displaying its harmony, but also promising great aging potential.
Goes well with roast kid, dishes with sausages, cod in the oven, vegetarian dishes with legumes.
Batch D is a very specific terroir wine, as all its organoleptic characteristics reflect the vineyard on a south-facing slope, with a lot of limestone. It is a tribute to the great Bairradino wines of the past: light in color and alcohol content, but with enormous aging potential. Due to the great passion that Dirk and Daniel Niepoort have for this wine, every year this vineyard is harvested and vinified separately. This is yet another father and son creation with a lot of character.
