The Marquês de Marialva brand is the hat brand for DOC Bairrada wines and sparkling wines from Adega de Cantanhede. It was born as a tribute to a man from Cantanhede, D. António Luís de Meneses, commander of Portuguese troops in the important battles of the War of Restoration, Montes Claros and Linhas de Elvas, which were used to regain Portugal's independence from the Spanish kingdom. In recognition of his glorious achievements, King D. Afonso VI awarded him the title of Marquis of Marialva, which he accumulated with that of the 3rd Count of Cantanhede. This simple tribute from Adega de Cantanhede aims to offer the best we know how to do, the bravery of this Cantanhedense to whom we owe the independence of Portugal.
